As Talking Service grows, it takes its place among the ever-increasing number of programs for veterans, their families, friends, and others that use art, literature, and music to help enrich and ease the transition from military service back into civilian life. Listed below are some of these programs and the organizations that run them. All these programs share with Talking Service a sincere concern for the well-being and flourishing of the men and women who have served our country.
– A national reading and discussion program for veterans, supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
– Writing workshops for veterans and their civilian friends, conducted by veteran writers.
– A U.S. government-supported bridge program for veterans returning to college in more than fifty colleges across the country. Several VUB programs have been using the anthology, Standing Down: From Warrior to Civilian, in their programs.
– A program designed to help wounded veterans recover through creating and performing music.
